a note from us to you
Oddaný
[Od - d - aný] Czech/Polish
Adj.
Devoted.
We are Oddany, a gallery and artist run collective dreamed up in the formation of a friendship. A series of long conversations had between Porto and Prague, about how to be a person, how to be an artist, and how, ultimately, to love each other.
We have now found our roots on Johnston street, in a gallery space which opens out to the world, and welcomes the world in.
Oddany Gallery acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land we operate on, the unceded sovereign land of the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin nation. We pay all our respects to elders past, present and emerging.
We are founded on one core principle, which we believe to be of the greatest kind of devotion: We refuse a separation between art and life.
That out of which separation, a certain kind of atomisation grows in abundance. So in our devotion, to a life that is of art, we know that the heart of it all is a community which refuses the forces of isolation. That community love which embraces art as a core part of the human experience, operates in a realm of the divine. That art must not be a privileged sport.
So we invite you to share the space with us, a space for gentle love and artistic exchange, of the formal and the informal, if there is to be such a distinction. A space where what we owe to each other, means that needs and obligations are balanced well, so that our roots may grow to be strong.
We are artist run, interdependent, local; devoted to the task of building a space that can be shared well.
With your acceptance.
Yours,
Oddany.
